The SMI Forum 2022 shines the spotlight on research and development (R&D) in harnessing the power of data, digitalisation and artificial intelligence (AI) to make new business insights, better informed decisions, and drive efficiencies for the shipping and port sectors.

The accelerated pace of digitalisation is rapidly transforming the maritime landscape, with more and more shipping and port operations embracing state-of-the-art digital platforms and solutions. What is the global landscape and use cases in the applications of digitalisation and AI? How can novel applications in other industries be translated to our maritime sector? What are our researchers in the maritime R&D ecosystem working on? These are some of the thought provoking issues that will be presented, discussed and explored at the SMI Forum this year.

Some highlights of the Forum include a keynote presentation by SMI’s Distinguished Visitor Mr Steve Nouri, founder of AI4Diveristy, a distinguished panel discussion on the topic, announcements of major fundings for our local R&D ecosystem, new research collaborations and initiatives. Through a showcase of research projects, international and local maritime researchers will present and share ongoing R&D efforts in AI and digitalisation that can automate processes and operations, improve environmental performance and strengthen the resilience of the maritime supply chain.
