SUMMARY:SMI Forum 2022: Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence: Sparking the Maritime Sector
DESCRIPTION:The SMI Forum 2022 shines the spotlight on research and development (R&D) in harnessing the power of data, digitalisation and artificial intelligence (AI) to make new business insights, better informed decisions, and drive efficiencies for the shipping and port sectors. The accelerated pace of digitalisation is rapidly transforming the maritime landscape, with more and more shipping and port operations embracing state-of-the-art digital platforms and solutions. What is the global landscape and use cases in the applications of digitalisation and AI? How can novel applications in other industries be translated to our maritime sector? What are our researchers in the maritime R&D ecosystem working on? These are some of the thought provoking issues that will be presented, discussed and explored at the SMI Forum this year. Some highlights of the Forum include a keynote presentation by SMI’s Distinguished Visitor Mr Steve Nouri, founder of AI4Diveristy, a distinguished panel discussion on the topic, announcements of major fundings for our local R&D ecosystem, new research collaborations and initiatives. Through a showcase of research projects, international and local maritime researchers will present and share ongoing R&D efforts in AI and digitalisation that can automate processes and operations, improve environmental performance and strengthen the resilience of the maritime supply chain. For more information on the event and the programme, please refer to: SMI Forum 2022 PROGRAMME9.00am – 10.00amSMI Forum RegistrationMorning Coffee and Tea10.00am – 10.15amWelcome AddressMr Wong Weng SunChairman, Singapore Maritime Institute10.15am – 10.30amSMI Year in ReviewMr Tan Cheng PengExecutive Director, Singapore Maritime Institute10.30am – 10.45amKeynote Presentation: AI the AlmightyMr Steve NouriFounder, AI4Diversity;Chief AI Evangelist, Wand; andSMI Distinguished Visitor10.45am – 11.00amFrom AI ethics to AI governanceDr Matti MäntymäkiAssociate Professor of Information SystemsTurku School of Economics,University of Turku, Finland11.00am – 11.20amOpening Address by Guest-of-HonourMr Chee Hong TatSenior Minister of StateMinistry of Transport and Ministry of Finance11.20am – 11.45amSigning Ceremonies11.45am – 12.45pmPanel DiscussionModerator: Associate Professor Carol Hargreaves, Director, Data Analytics Consulting Centre, National University of SingaporePanellists:• Mr Steve Nouri, Founder, AI4Diversity• Professor Ric Parker, Special Advisor, A*STAR; Former Chief Technology Officer, Rolls-Royce Group• Mr Sean Fernback, President, Wärtsilä Voyage and Executive Vice President, Wärtsilä Corporation• Professor Chen Tsuhan, Deputy President, Research and Technology, Distinguished Professor, National University of Singapore; Chief Scientist, AI Singapore• Professor Lim Keng Hui, Assistant Chief Executive, Science & Engineering Research Council, A*STAR• Mr Kenneth Lim, Assistant Chief Executive (Industry & Transformation), Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore2.15pm – 4.55pmResearch PresentationsModelling of digital twin for mega container port with hybrid DES formalismDr Li HaobinCo-DirectorCentre of Excellence in Modelling and Simulation for Next Generation PortsDigitalisation and smart technologies: Impact on ship design and operationsMs Chen YingyingResearch EngineerCentre of Excellence for Autonomous & Remotely Operated VesselsDr Bhushan TaskarScientistCentre of Excellence for Autonomous & Remotely Operated VesselsMaritime Informatics – a contributor for a high performing and sustainable maritime industryDr Mikael Lind(Adjunct) Professor in Maritime InformaticsSenior Strategic Research Advisor, Safety and TransportResearch Institutes of Sweden (RISE)Maritime Safety – Coupling Next Gen Technology with TalentMr Daniel ZhangCentre DirectorCentre of Excellence in Maritime SafetySituational awareness for autonomous surface vehicles: Practical experiences and reflectionsAssociate Professor Edmund Førland BrekkeDepartment of Engineering CyberneticsNorwegian University of Science & TechnologyData-driven analysis on energy and emission performance of harbour craft in Singapore port waterDr Xiao ZengqiResearch FellowMaritime Energy and Sustainable Development Centre of ExcellenceMaritime AI ProgrammeDr Qin ZhengDepartment Director (Systems Science)Institute of High Performance Computing, A*STARMaritime Cybersecurity: Guidelines and TestbedsProfessor Zhou JianyingCo-DirectoriTrust, Singapore University of Technology & DesignAn Engineering-Data Driven Digital Twin – Digitaland@TuasDr Darren ChianAssociate Professor and Director of the Centre for Soft Ground Engineering, Department of Civil and Environmental EngineeringNational University of Singapore4.55pmClosing RemarksMr Tan Cheng PengExecutive Director, Singapore Maritime Institute
