Alternative energy has been a hot topic since the International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted the initial strategy on the reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from ships in 2018. In light of the global goal and national decarbonisation agenda, the Maritime Energy & Sustainable Development (MESD) Centre of Excellence has conducted in-depth baseline study and projection of different types of alternative energy for various maritime sectors, including port, harbour craft and ocean-going ships. The centre has identified biofuel to be an attractive drop-in fuel to immediately lower the sector’s carbon footprint.

MESD is pleased to host the 3rd annual seminar event MESD Webinar 2021, focusing on biofuel. The centre will share the latest research findings on the supply of sustainable biofuel and its compatibility with Singapore harbour craft. MESD will also invite the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and biofuel supplier to share their insights on the current development of biofuel as a marine fuel.
