SUMMARY:MESD Webinar: Biofuel for the Maritime Industry, Near-term and Long-term Perspective
DESCRIPTION:Alternative energy has been a hot topic since the International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted the initial strategy on the reduction of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from ships in 2018. In light of the global goal and national decarbonisation agenda, the Maritime Energy & Sustainable Development (MESD) Centre of Excellence has conducted in-depth baseline study and projection of different types of alternative energy for various maritime sectors, including port, harbour craft and ocean-going ships. The centre has identified biofuel to be an attractive drop-in fuel to immediately lower the sector’s carbon footprint.MESD is pleased to host the 3rd annual seminar event MESD Webinar 2021, focusing on biofuel. The centre will share the latest research findings on the supply of sustainable biofuel and its compatibility with Singapore harbour craft. MESD will also invite the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and biofuel supplier to share their insights on the current development of biofuel as a marine fuel. The details of the Webinar Programme are as follows:TimeProgramme14:15-14:30 Participants Admission to Webinar14:30-14:40Opening RemarksSpeaker: Mr Tan Cheng Peng, Executive Director, SMI14:40-14:50Centre UpdateSpeaker: Assoc Prof Lam Siu Lee Jasmine, Centre Director, MESD14:50-15:10Perspective from the Port AuthoritySpeaker: Er Tham Wai Wah, Senior Director, Engineering & Project Management / Chief Engineer / Chief Sustainability Officer, MPA15:10-15:30Perspective from the Biofuel SupplierSpeaker: Wilmar15:30-15:50Development of Sustainable Biofuel Pathway for Maritime ApplicationSpeaker: Dr Prapisala Thepsithar, Research Lead, MESD15:50-16:10Sharing from the Biofuel Compatibility Study for Singapore Harbour CraftSpeaker: Dr Liu Ming, Research Lead, MESD16:10-16:55Panel discussion: Biofuel for the Maritime Industry, Near-term and Long-Term PerspectiveModerator: Dr Sze Jia Yin, Research Lead, MESD16:55-17:00Closing RemarksSpeaker: Assoc Prof Lam Siu Lee Jasmine, Centre Director, MESDPre-registration to attend the webinar is required, and registration is free of charge. The Zoom meeting details will be sent to the registered participants when the date draws near. Please contact Ms Peng Li (peng.li@ntu.edu.sg) or Ms Gou Xueni (xngou@ntu.edu.sg) for more information.
