- AMF-SLAM: 3D Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping with Power Network Electromagnetic Radiation
Technology Overview
This technology introduces an alternating magnetic field (AMF) based orientation-aware 3D simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) algorithm. It utilizes low-frequency electromagnetic radiation from power networks to enable indoor mapping and localization without the need for additional infrastructure.
AMF-based 3D SLAM technology
-
Infrastructure-Free Indoor Positioning:
Utilises low-frequency magnetic fields from existing powerlines, no need for Wi-Fi beacons, GPS repeaters, or additional hardware infrastructure
-
High-Precision 3D Localisation:
Achieves sub-1m to 3m median positioning accuracy, Delivers sub-2° mean orientation accuracy
-
Advanced Orientation-Aware SLAM:
Integrates triaxial AMF sensor with mobile platforms, avoids cumulative error issues typical of inertial-only systems
-
Robust 3D Mapping Capability:
Suitable for complex indoor layouts up to 500m² and beyond
-
Deployment Advantages:
Stable signal source improves consistency, stable signal source improves consistency
Maritime Use Cases

The AMF-SLAM technology could be adapted to enable autonomous or remotely operated maritime vehicles, such as USVs or ROVs, to accurately navigate and map complex indoor maritime environments, such as ship interiors, cargo holds, or offshore facilities.

The advanced mapping and localization capabilities could support applications like hull inspection, cargo monitoring, or infrastructure maintenance, where precise positioning and environmental understanding are critical.

The SLAM system could also be integrated with other sensor technologies, such as cameras or sonars, to provide a comprehensive understanding of the maritime environment and enhance the decision making capabilities of autonomous maritime systems.
