New Appointment of SMI Governing Council Members

The Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI) has appointed two new members into its Governing Council as part of SMI’s transition into the next five years of operations.
Professor Philip Liu, Vice President (Research and Technology) at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and Professor Lam Khin Yong, Chief of Staff and Vice President (Research) at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), will be taking over Professor Tan Eng Chye, Deputy President & Provost at NUS, and Professor Freddy Boey, Deputy President & Provost at NTU, as members of the SMI Governing Council respectively. The new appointment will be in effect from 1 July 2016.
Together with Professor Tan and Professor Boey, Mr Tong Chong Heong, Senior Advisor at Keppel Offshore & Marine, and Mr Douglas B. Moody, Senior Vice President and General Manager (Asia Pacific and Middle East) at FMC Technologies, will also be stepping down from the SMI Governing Council.
The new SMI Governing Council will take effect from 1 July 2016, as follows:

Mr S.S. Teo, Chairman of SMI Board and Governing Council, would like to express his appreciation to all out-going SMI Governing Council members for their significant contribution and support towards SMI during their term.
About the Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI)
The Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI) is a joint effort by the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA), the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB). Established in Jan 2011, the mission of the SMI is to make a difference through world-class R&D, training & education and thought leadership in policy formulation for the maritime industry. The SMI aims to develop and pursue strategies and programmes in order to further enhance the development of the maritime industry. Key focus areas of the SMI include sectors such as shipping, port and maritime services as well as offshore and marine engineering.
SMI will partner with both the Institutes of Higher Learning and the Research Institutions under A*STAR to work closely with the industry to develop and grow the industry through knowledge and innovation. SMI will work towards attracting renowned academics and researchers to base in Singapore and groom the next generation of local maritime talent to meet the needs of the industry.
