Launch of Maritime R&D Grant Call on Wharf-side Coning and Vessel-side Lashing for Container Terminal Operations

Jointly launched by the Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI), Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), and PSA Corporation Ltd. (PSA). The Maritime R&D Grant Call on Wharf-side Coning and Vessel-side Lashing for Container Terminal Operations will be open from 28 June 2019 to 23 August 2019. The aim of this grant call is to support the research & development of automated systems and novel concepts to enhance container terminal operations, namely:

• Wharf side coning/deconing operations, and
• Vessel side lashing/unlashing operations

The R&D Grant Call is launched under the Maritime Transformation Programme (MTP), which was announced by Minister Heng Swee Keat in the 2018 Budget speech and is a key vehicle to implement the Sea Transport Industry Transformation Map’s (ITM) innovation thrust. The five strategic research thrusts under the MTP are:

1. Efficient and Intelligent World Class Next Generation Port
2. Strategic Sea Space & Maritime Traffic Management
3. Smart Fleet Operations and Autonomous Vessels
4. Effective Maritime Safety and Security
5. Sustainable Maritime Energy and Environment

Under the MTP and Thrust 1 on “Efficient and Intelligent World Class Next Generation Port”, researchers from eligible R&D organisations in Singapore are invited to apply and submit proposals to work with PSA through research and development to address wharf-side coning and vessel-side lashing. There will be a briefing and site visit at PSA’s premises organised on 11 July 2019 (Thursday) 1.00PM for interested researchers and applicants. Online registration for the briefing and site visit can be performed HERE.
