SUMMARY:“The 3Di system: Flooding and drainage analysis with high resolution data viewed in stereo”
DESCRIPTION:Flooding is an increasing hazard to society. Good governance nowadays implies careful water management in terms of both design and planning of urban and rural areas such that the effect of rainstorms, extreme water levels etc. is taken into account with relevant precision. A great aid is the existence ofGraphical Information Systems with Digital Elevation Models. In this presentation we explain this can be used for detailed simulation of flooding events. The method is based on the sub-grid method of Casulli with some adaptations for rapidly varying flows and for bottom friction in typical land areas. The method is developed within the 3Di program. This 3Di Water management research program aims to develop web based applications for very fast but accurate hydraulic computations on a detailed spatial scale. Together, these applications comprise a new versatile water management modelling instrument which will not only support operational water management, but decision making processes during disasters, water system analysis and spatial planning as well. The instrument allows something called interactive modelling both on touch screen and iPad, and enables results to be viewed in realistic 3D stereo, see: www.3di.nu.For online registration, click HERE.
