SUMMARY:Technical Talk: Shipbuilding education in Russia by Prof Kirill V Rozhdestvensky
DESCRIPTION:Reduction of Sulphur EmissionThe lecture, originally delivered at the IMarEST HQ (London) as Gordon Hodge Memorial Lecture presents a view on the history, development and present state of shipbuilding education in Russia, starting from Peter The Great’s (Tsar Carpenter) training experience in Holland and England at the end of the 17th century, up until the present time. Large contribution to the training of specialists in this field is due to the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute (LSI, now Saint-Petersburg State Marine Techncal University – SMTU), which has been delivering highly qualified engineers and managers for the Russian shipbuilding industry fro more than eighty years. Characteristics of the academic process at this institution are described and its connection to the shipbuilding industry.
