SUMMARY:Technical Talk on DFPSO by Dr John Preedy
DESCRIPTION:ABSTRACTDrilling Floating Production Storage & Offloading Vessels -Opportunities for the Marine IndustryThere are many Floating Production Vessels operating around the world. Of these the most popular and numerous are the FPSOs– Floating Production, Storage and Offloading. They are deployed on fields where the wells are drilled separately by mobile drilling units. In the late ‘90s and early 2000s, it was proposed that the drilling facility should be added to the FPSOs functions making it an FDPSO, with the extra D being drilling. The Azurite FDPSO is the world’s first floating, drilling, production, storage and offloading (FDPSO) vessel. This was a tanker conversion carried out at the Keppel Shipyard, Singapore between 2007 and 2009. On 10 August 2009, Azurite FDPSO started production at the Azurite offshore oilfield in waters of the Republic of Congo. Prosafe Production is responsible for the vessel operations and Murphy Oil is responsible for drilling.Another FDPSO (an early production vessel) is now operating in Brazilian waters. However, the question remains about the FDPSO concept. These include :-Are they a good idea? Can they be used widely or in only very few locations?Where they are used, are they cost effective? What are their potential advantages and disadvantages? Will they become a common offshore Production entity? What are the opportunities of DFPSOs for Singapore’s marine industry? The presentation explores the above questions.
