SUMMARY:Suction-embedded plate anchors
DESCRIPTION:As the world wide demand for oil and gas increases, the exploration activities are moving steadily from shallow to deep waters. The floating production system such as tension leg platforms and semi-submersibles are being utilized. Hence, the requirement to design a cost effective and reliable deepwater anchor system poses a new challenge for geotechnical engineers.Suction embedded plate anchor consists of a fluke, a shank and a keying flap. A suction caisson is used to embed a plate anchor to the required depth. After extraction of the suction caisson, a mooring line attached to the plate anchor is tensioned, causing the plate anchor to rotate to an orientation that is perpendicular to the pullout direction to achieve the maximum capacity.This presentation focuses on the capacity of the plate anchor in clay and the soil behavior during the keying process of the suction embedded plate anchor. Owing to the extremely large soil deformation during the keying process, the Eulerian finite element analysis is applied to study the interaction of the soil and suction embedded plate anchor.For online registration, please click HERE.
