SUMMARY:SMI Seminar 2014: Automation & Autonomy
DESCRIPTION:Held in conjunction with the Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) 2014, the Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI) will be co-organising the SMI Automation & Autonomy Seminar with the Maritime Institute @ Ngee Ann Polytechnic (MI@NP) and the support of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Maritime Institutes @ Institutes of Higher Learning (MI@IHLs). The Seminar will be part of SMI’s efforts to promote and develop maritime R&D in Singapore as well as to foster innovation within the maritime industry in the area of automation & autonomy.Automation & autonomy is key towards higher operation efficiency and better reliability. It is a good way to address challenges relating to the shortage of skilled labour and improving productivity. Technologies and R&D capabilities developed under this thrust will be applied to various maritime domains such as port, shipping and shipyards. In the case of port, automation technology and autonomous machines will continue to evolve and become an integral part of the port of the future. These technologies can also help shipyards and equipment manufacturers to improve product reliability, productivity and workplace safety.Bringing together the industry and academia in the maritime domain, the event provides a platform for speakers and participants to interact and identify existing industry challenges and R&D opportunities. One of the highlights of the event is also the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between PSA Corporation and MPA.Interested parties may wish to register online HERE.
