SUMMARY:“Sizing, Selection and Installation of Cables on Ships and Offshore Installations” by James Teng
DESCRIPTION:Sizing and selection of electrical cables for Power, Instrumentation and Control applications forMarine and Offshore environment is not an easy task nowadays. We need to also differentiatebetween Flame Retardant Cables and Fire Resistant Cables and which are the electrical systems that require Fire Resistant cables (so that the required system can be operable during a FIRE for a period of 90 minutes (with fail). As spaces that are available onboard ships are rather limited. Cables must be of Low Smoke and Halogen-Free. This will enable ship?s crew to evacuate quickly (crew?s vision are not blinded by the thick black smoke) and safely out of the fire site.A “value-added” topic on “How to Reduce Cable Wastages” are included in this Talk. In shipyards, after each ship?s delivery the shipyard will face some problem on how to tackle a large „chunk? of electrical cables (with assorted cable types and assorted cable sizes and the Quantity of each cable are in very short length) that are left behind.Speaker – James Teng
