In order to access hydrocarbon energy reservoir underneath the arctic or sub-arctic sea surface, those existed offshore platforms are being re-evaluated to deploy in ice-infested harsh environment. With the emerging threat of ice loads, ice-structure interaction phenomenon is attempted to be investigated and simulated qualitatively by using CEF (cohesive element frame) technology to model the ice fracture behavior in terms of crack. Simultaneously its interaction progress also involves many other complicated behaviors with respect to material nonlinearity, complex contact, multi-step arrangement, etc. In this short seminar, it will reveal the state-of-art research milestone from ABS/Singapore Offshore Technology Center that how to assess offshore structure integrity, when interacted with ice, by the necessary implementation of CEF fracture technology.
