SUMMARY:Materials in the Marine Environment: Solutions for Preserving Performance
DESCRIPTION:Singapore is a leading international maritime centre with a number of activities associated with maritime industry such as harbor installations, oil rigs, shipping vessels, underwater cables, sensors, etc. Such infrastructures are of enormous value and hence their endurance is of great significance for economic reasons. However, materials used for making these structures are constantly exposed to matters of organic and inorganic nature which causes problems ranging from corrosion to settlement of marine organisms, a process known as fouling. Thus preventing fouling and thereby enhancing the performance and life of materials is of immense significance to maritime industry.This workshop is organised by the Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences (ICES) as part of Innovative Marine Antifouling Solutions for High Value Applications (IMAS) programme. IMAS is an interdisciplinary research programme funded by Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) of Agency for Science Technology and Research (A*STAR) with the Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences (ICES) as host institute, together with the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing and Technology (SIMTech) and the Tropical Marine Science Institute of the National University of Singapore (TMSI-NUS).For registration and further event detail, kindly click HERE or contact Ms Hera Adam at +65 6796 3894 and imasworkshop@ices.a-star.edu.sg.
