SUMMARY:Hydrodynamic interaction between side by-side floating bodies
DESCRIPTION:Hydrodynamic interaction between side-by-side floating bodies is an important subject in the maritime and offshore industries. Free-surface response in the gap region between the adjacent bodies affects the safety and operability of offloading operations in FLNG field developments and during OPL ship-to-ship transfers. Multi-body hydrodynamics may also play an important role in marine renewable energy devices where responses need to be either suppressed or enhanced. In this presentation, we review the various approaches used to investigate this subject, namely, potential flow models, tank testing and more recently, fully viscous Navier-Stokes models. The short-comings of each approach will be discussed and a new numerical approach based on the coupling potential flow and fully viscous model is proposed to address the short-comings.For online registration, please click HERE.
