High-Performance Hydrodynamic Modelling and Applications
This seminar introduces a
High-Performance Integrated hydrodynamic Modelling System (HiPIMS) developed at Newcastle University, UK and its applications in three priority areas of hydro-environmental engineering, including natural hazards, catchment management and water-food-energy nexus. HiPIMS includes a core component solving the 2D shallow water equations using a modern shock-capturing numerical scheme and therefore it is able to represent different types of shallow flow hydrodynamics, ranging from slowly-varying flood inundation to violent dam-break waves or tsunami. In order to substantially improve the computational efficiency for multi-scale simulations, HiPIMS is implemented on graphics processes units (GPUs) using the OpenCL programming framework.
